The "Whirlwind" is not one of the most common mascots seen in school districts.
No one is exactly sure how the name was acquired, but as the story goes,
in the 1927-28 school year, Archie's basketball team ended with a record
of 20-3. The "Democrat", a local newspaper, wrote an article about
the team being "whirlwinds" on the court. This name seemed to stick
with the team throughout the rest of the season. From that time on
we have been known as the Archie Whirlwinds.
